Punch List (Snag List)
Log handover defects with photos, assign and fix them, and sign each one off — optionally blocking project completion until critical snags are cleared.
Use this when: A project is reaching handover and you need to track and sign off the defects (snags) found during closeout.
A punch list is the closeout register of defects found at handover. Unlike site inspections (quality gates during construction), it tracks each snag from open through fix and sign-off, with before/after photos and an optional gate that stops a project being completed while critical snags remain.
Punch List vs Site Inspections
Site inspections are quality gates during construction — they check work against a checklist and can block a stage from completing. A punch list is the defect register at the end: the snags that must be fixed and verified before the project is formally handed over.
Different jobs
Use site inspections to gate stages as work progresses; use the punch list to manage closeout defects at handover.
The Snag Workflow
The assignee fixes the snag and marks it ready; a supervisor verifies (or rejects with a reason) and then closes it.
- 1
Raise the snag
Record the defect: title, trade, severity, location, and who is responsible. Add before photos.
- 2
Fix and submit
The assignee starts work, fixes the defect, adds after photos, and marks it ready for review.
- 3
Verify or reject
A supervisor verifies the fix, or rejects it with a reason so it can be reworked and re-submitted.
- 4
Close
Once verified, the snag is closed. Mark it client-visible to share it on the client portal.
Photo Evidence
Attach before and after photos to each snag. Photos you mark client-visible appear to the client; the rest stay internal.
The Completion Gate
Your company can require that all critical snags are cleared before a project can be marked completed. When this setting is on, a project with any open critical punch item cannot be set to Completed.
Critical snags block handover
Turn on the Punch List Completion Gate in Settings to enforce closeout discipline on critical defects.
What Clients See
Snags you mark client-visible appear in the client portal under Punch List with their status and details (and client-visible photos), giving the client a transparent handover view.
